Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA)
All States Materials Group's hot mix asphalt (HMA) is a high quality, flexible and durable paving material manufactured at our state-of-the-art four-ton H&B batch plant. We use performance-graded (PG) neat and modified asphalts as well as conventional and Superpave mixes. We design our mixes in our laboratory. Our technicians are well-trained and experienced with conventional and Superpave methods and equipment, and they use their expertise to develop the job mix formulas that make sure you are satisfied with your paving projects. We use aggregates that meet all specifications for durability, hardness, shape, gradation and volumetrics. Our experienced crews keep our plants, terminals and production methods in top condition, and they run strict quality control on all our products. Our HMA is ready at the temperature needed for optimal transportation, laydown and compaction. We manufacture high performance HMA with modified asphalt binders and additives and special mixes (such as open- and gap-graded) for especially difficult locations, such as high traffic intersections and urban interstates.
Hot Mix Asphalt Benefits
- Flexible but strong pavement materials resistant to rutting, cracking and moisture damage
- Smooth and quiet riding surfaces
- Strict quality control
- Easy to construct and compact, delivered on spec, on temperature and on time
- Easily recycled
- Available in a variety of high-performance and conventional materials for building and maintaining all types of pavements
Hot Mix Asphalt Uses
Our conventional and Superpave hot mix asphalts are used primarily for new construction of flexible pavements, for structural overlays to improve or correct existing pavements, and for preventive and corrective maintenance thin overlays. These pavements may be on streets, roads, highways, airports, parking lots and other industrial applications. Our gap- and open-graded mixes are designed for use where durable skid resistance, noise reduction, water drain-off and/or visibility in wet weather are concerns. Our high performance mixes are designed with extra durability for heavy-duty applications with high traffic and/or other high stress environments. We can design and provide specialty hot mix asphalt for such applications as paver placed surface seal and stone matrix asphalt (SMA). For optimal paving and compaction, HMA should be kept at the recommended construction temperature. Transport trucks should be tarped, and haul distances should be limited. Best results are obtained by placing the mix over a good tack coat, and avoiding mix and temperature segregation. There should be no imminent threat of rain.
