Warm Mix Additives

Warm mix asphalt (WMA) is the generic term for a variety of warm mix additives that allow producers of hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavements to mix and lay down asphaltic materials at lower temperatures.

WMA additives, including chemical additives and organic waxes, allow the producers of asphaltic pavement material to mix and pave at lower temperatures for more cost-effective paving. Reductions of up to 50°F to 85°F have been documented over the past decade.

There are a variety of benefits to decreased production temperature, including cutting fuel consumption and reduced emissions at paving site. Being able to pave at lower temperatures also allows for:

  • Better road compaction, which gives the ability to pave more miles
  • The ability to haul paving mix for longer distances
  • Extension of the paving season

Products & Descriptions:

ZycoTherm uses nanotechnology to substantially improve the asphalt coating of the binder on the aggregates, which ensures consistent and higher road compaction and eliminates stripping.
